Overview
KyberPulse continuously scans student Gmail, Google Docs, and web activity for safety concerns — self-harm, violence, bullying, sexual content, and more. When it detects something, it creates an alert. Notification Contacts control who gets told, how (email and/or SMS), and which alerts reach them.
This guide walks you through setting up notification contacts so the right people — counselors, principals, SROs — are alerted the moment a concern is detected.
Important: If no notification contacts are configured, alerts fall back to your organization's admin users. For a safety-critical workflow, you should always configure dedicated contacts (e.g. a counselor and a principal) rather than relying on the admin fallback.
Step 1 — Open Notification Contacts
- Sign in to your dashboard at dashboard.kybergate.com.
- In the left navigation, go to Safety → Notification Contacts.
- You'll see the list of everyone currently configured to receive safety alerts.
Step 2 — Add a Contact
- Click Add Contact.
- Fill in the details:
- Name — the person's name (required).
- Role — Counselor, Principal, SRO / Security, IT Admin, Teacher, School Nurse, or Custom. This is a label to help you organize contacts.
- Email and/or Phone — at least one is required. Phone numbers are used for SMS alerts.
- School (optional) — useful for multi-school districts to label which building a contact covers.
- Choose delivery channels:
- Email — toggle on to send alert emails (on by default).
- SMS — toggle on to send text-message alerts (requires a phone number).
- Click Save.
Step 3 — Route Alerts by Severity
Each contact has a Severity Filter that controls which alert levels they receive:
- Critical — immediate danger (self-harm, violence, sexual exploitation). Alerts fire instantly.
- High — serious concerns (cyberbullying, threats, weapons).
- Medium — moderate concerns worth review.
- Low — informational / low-confidence signals.
By default, contacts receive Critical and High alerts. A common setup:
- Counselor → Critical + High (self-harm, bullying)
- Principal → Critical only (only the most serious)
- SRO / Security → Critical (violence, weapons)
- IT Admin → all severities (for system oversight)
Step 4 — Route Alerts by Category (Optional)
You can further narrow what a contact receives with the Category Filter. For example:
- Route self-harm and eating-disorders alerts to the school counselor and nurse.
- Route violence-threats and weapons alerts to the SRO.
- Leave the category filter empty to send all categories (recommended for at least one contact).
If a category filter is empty, the contact receives every category that matches their severity filter.
Step 5 — Send a Test
Before you rely on it, confirm delivery works:
- Click the email icon next to a contact to send a test email.
- Click the send icon (for SMS-enabled contacts) to send a test SMS.
The contact should receive a "KyberGate Safety Alert — Test" message within a minute. If they don't:
- Check spam/junk folders for email.
- Verify the phone number is a valid mobile number that can receive texts.
- Confirm the delivery channel (Email / SMS) is toggled on for that contact.
Managing Contacts
- Pause a contact — use the active toggle to temporarily stop alerts without deleting the contact (useful when someone is out of office).
- Edit — click the edit icon to change channels, severity, or category routing.
- Remove — click the trash icon to delete a contact permanently.
How Alerts Are Delivered
When KyberPulse creates a Critical or High alert:
- The alert is written to your dashboard immediately (Safety → Safety Alerts).
- Within ~2 minutes, KyberGate emails and/or texts every matching contact.
- Critical alerts are never suppressed — even short signals like "kms" and content that mentions gaming or schoolwork will still alert. Safety always wins over noise reduction.
Best-Practice Setup
For a typical school we recommend, at minimum:
- One counselor on Critical + High, all categories, email + SMS.
- One administrator or principal on Critical, email + SMS, as a backup.
- Optionally an SRO on violence/weapons categories.
This ensures that if one person misses an alert, another is notified — and that the most serious signals always reach a human quickly.
