Getting Started with KyberClassroom
KyberClassroom is KyberGate's real-time classroom management tool that gives teachers direct control over student devices during instruction. Teachers can monitor screens, push URLs, restrict browsing, and lock devices — all from a simple web-based dashboard.
Before You Begin
- Student devices must be enrolled in KyberGate and online
- Teachers need a KyberGate account with the Teacher role (or higher)
- Classes must be set up in KyberGate (synced via Google Workspace, Clever, or manually created)
- A modern web browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox)
Accessing KyberClassroom
- Log in to your KyberGate dashboard at dashboard.kybergate.com
- Click "KyberClassroom" in the left sidebar
- Select your class from the class list
- You'll see a device grid showing all enrolled student devices
The Device Grid
The device grid is the heart of KyberClassroom. Each tile represents one student device and shows:
- Student name and device type (iPad, Chromebook, macOS, Windows)
- Live thumbnail of the student's current screen (updates every few seconds)
- Current URL the student is browsing
- Status indicator: 🟢 Online, 🟡 Idle, 🔴 Offline
- Alert badge if the student triggered a safety alert
Click any tile to expand it for a larger view of that student's screen.
Classroom Modes
KyberClassroom has three operating modes:
1. Monitor Mode (Default)
- Students browse normally within the school's filtering policy
- Teacher can see all screens and activity
- No additional restrictions applied
- Best for: Independent work time, research projects
2. Focus Mode
- Teacher locks students to a specific set of allowed URLs
- Students can ONLY visit the approved sites
- All other sites show a "Focus Mode" message
- Best for: Guided lessons, specific web-based assignments
3. Restrict Mode
- All internet access is blocked
- Students see a "Restricted" screen
- Devices can still run local/offline applications
- Best for: Tests, transitions, direct instruction without screens
Quick Actions
From the device grid, teachers can:
- Lock All Screens — Instantly blank all student screens with a custom message
- Push URL — Send a website to all student devices, opening it in their browser
- Send Message — Display a text message on all student screens
- End Class — Return all devices to normal filtering policy
Tips
- Start class in Monitor mode to see what students are doing before adding restrictions
- Use Focus Mode for assignments — pre-load the URLs students need and they won't get distracted
- Pin KyberClassroom to your browser toolbar for quick access during class
- Screen Lock is instant — use it for "eyes on me" moments without disrupting the lesson flow
Troubleshooting
- Student device not showing? Verify the device is online and enrolled in KyberGate. Check that the student is assigned to your class
- Screen thumbnails not updating? The device may be on a slow connection. Try refreshing the page
- Focus Mode not restricting? Ensure the URLs are entered correctly (include
https://). Check that the device is routing through the proxy - Can't find KyberClassroom? Your account may not have the Teacher role — ask your KyberGate admin
